SALARY: £24,948 per annum + Benefits

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Support Worker / Family, Children and Young Person Support Officer to provide person-centred, trauma-informed support to families and children affected by domestic abuse.

As a Support Worker / Family, Children and Young Person Support Officer you will deliver compassionate and practical assistance, helping families in refuge and community settings access education, healthcare, and wellbeing support.

The Support Worker / Family, Children and Young Person Support Officer will also coordinate group activities, liaise with partner agencies, and ensure safeguarding responsibilities are met — promoting safety, resilience, and empowerment for women and children.

DUTIES

Your duties as the Support Worker / Family, Children and Young Person Support Officer include:

  • Provide Support and Advocacy: Assist women, children, and young people affected by domestic abuse in refuge and community settings
  • Facilitate Access to Education And Health: Ensure children access local schools and healthcare services promptly
  • Empower Parents: Support parents in addressing parenting and behavioural challenges
  • Plan and Deliver Activities: Organise engaging group sessions and events to enrich children’s experiences
  • Maintain Accurate Records: Ensure all support activities and outcomes are documented
  • Coordinate Volunteers: Work with volunteers to enhance the delivery of support services
  • Liaise With Agencies: Collaborate with partner organisations to achieve the best outcomes for service users
  • Safeguarding: Identify and report safeguarding concerns, following the organisation’s safeguarding policies
  • Helpline and Cover: Provide occasional helpline cover and assist team members where required
  • Promote Continuous Improvement: Participate in feedback and reflective sessions to improve service delivery

 

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL

  • Proven experience of working with vulnerable children, families, and young people in a support capacity
  • Knowledge of the impact of domestic abuse on children and families
  • Understanding of safeguarding procedures and child protection responsibilities
  • Level 3 qualification or above in Social Care, Health Care, or Community Work
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, and anti-discriminatory practice
  • Valid driving licence and access to a car for business use

DESIRABLE

  • Experience working in domestic abuse, social care, or family support services
  • Knowledge of current government initiatives and relevant legislation
  • Ability to facilitate group sessions and deliver presentations to external organisations
