Maintenance Engineer / Maintenance Fitter who is able to carry out PPM, fault-find and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and low voltage electrical equipment and machinery is required for a well-established Manufacturing Plant based in Wretham, Thetford, Norfolk.

 

SALARY: £46,956 per annum + Excellent Benefits (see below)

LOCATION: Wretham, Thetford, Norfolk (IP24)  

JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent

WORKING HOURS: Primarily 40 hours per week, initially over 2 shifts; 06:00 to 14:30 and 13:30 to 22:00 with a 30 min break, but flexible within the requirements of the role due to potential breakdowns.  Potential Saturday and Sunday overtime for essential work.

 

JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity with a Manufacturing Plant for a Maintenance Engineer / Machine Fitter who is able to carry out PPM, fault-find and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and low voltage electrical equipment and machinery.

This is a ‘hands-on’ role and as the Maintenance Engineer / Machine Fitter you will work closely with the Assistant Site Manager, operations teams and contractors, ensuring the day-to-day maintenance and repairs are completed effectively and safely, alongside continual improvements to the production plant.

As the Maintenance Engineer / Machine Fitter you will be responsible for the maintenance of the whole site including the process plant and equipment and general infrastructure.

By developing a detailed understanding of the facility, you will review and continuously improve maintenance systems, to ensure they are fit for purpose and that they comply with Health, Safety, Environment and Quality regulations.

DUTIES

Your duties as the Maintenance Engineer / Machine Fitter include:

  • Responsible for the cleanliness and tidiness of the workshop and tools and replenishing consumables
  • Responsible for the spares and relationships with suppliers to ensure essential spares are readily obtainable and that longer lead-time critical spares are stored securely and replaced whenever used
  • Responsible to carry out and record all Daily, Weekly and Monthly PPM tasks in line with the schedules
  • Guidance and training to assist operators with self-sufficiency in routine reactive maintenance tasks
  • Reviewing and continuous development of maintenance plans by determining the most effective strategies for each piece of equipment as knowledge is built
  • Responsible for the reliability of the plant, finding faults and repairing breakdowns
  • Providing suggestions for improvements resulting in reduced downtime
  • Flexibility to cover staff shortages and call outs to deal with breakdowns and to carry out other reasonable duties required by the Site Manager

 

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Fault finding and repairs of low voltage electrical equipment
  • Extensive experience within a maintenance environment with the ability to fault find and repair mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment
  • Experience with bulk material conveying systems and process mixers
  • Sound judgement skills and rational approach
  • Team player with the ability to educate others in the importance of plant and equipment maintenance within a demanding production environment
  • Ability to review and improve systems and processes and (in conjunction with the Site Manager) adapting schedules and routines as experience is gained in the plant and process
  • Willingness to work under their own initiative. The Job Holder will be the sole engineer on site at any given time
  • Good organisational skills to be able to plan and prioritise tasks
  • Must have a flexible approach to work and be contactable out of hours

DESIRABLE

  • Knowledge of waste industry / environmental legislation
  • Holder of a relevant Vocational Safety Qualification
  • Hold appropriate mobile plant operating certificates. Counterbalance FLT. Front End Loader
