SALARY: £15.51 - £17.29 per Hour (depending on experience – includes extra in lieu of annual leave)

LOCATION: South West London (Clapham Junction SW11)      

JOB TYPE: Casual Bank Staff

WORKING HOURS: Available days Monday – Friday, 10am – 4pm (11am start on Tuesdays)

JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Teacher / SEN Tutor who has experience in training or teaching is required to teach adults with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, autism or mental health.

The bank Teachers / SEN Tutors teach adults with learning disabilities and autism. They step in to teach the charity’s independent living, employability, digital skills and English and Maths sessions when their teachers are on annual leave or unwell. The classes run from 10am – 4pm (11am - 4pm on Tuesdays) each day at their vibrant training centre in Clapham Junction, SW11.

Work is offered on an as-needed basis once you are added to the bank register, and is normally booked in advance. There is no guarantee of work; however, the charity is looking for people who are happy to be contacted at short notice to provide relief or can be booked for block days or weeks in advance.

 

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR

You’ll need to love teaching and enjoy working with adults with learning disabilities and autism. You should have experience training, with a can-do attitude and be passionate about motivating others. It’s important that you are reliable, supportive, patient and caring. You'll have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to relate positively and in a non-discriminatory way to disabled people from a range of backgrounds and communities.

 

DUTIES

Your duties as the Teacher / SEN Tutor will include:

  • Teach adults who have a range of learning disabilities, physical disabilities, autism and/or ill mental health
  • Teach a range of topics such as using iPads and apps, using the internet safely, money handling, employability, travelling independently, relationship management, health and wellbeing, and English and maths
  • Follow the lesson plan provided
  • Provide pastoral support to students and to support them in their transition back from lockdown
  • Feedback at the end of the day regarding student progress
  • Gather evidence of work that can be put into student portfolios
  • Follow the charity’s Covid 19 safety measures, and to teach students about social distancing and hygiene standards
  • Work within a framework that values diversity and the individual qualities of each student
  • Work in line with the charity’s values

 

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience in training or teaching, a teaching qualification would be desirable
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills
  • The ability to motivate and support students
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to relate positively and in a non-discriminatory way to disabled people from a range of backgrounds and communities
  • Reliable, with good time management
  • Able to explain tasks and procedures clearly and simply.
  • Personal flexibility and the ability to work in a way that is adaptable and focused on the needs of each individual student
