JOB DETAILS:

Software Developer with good configuration knowledge of packaged solutions (SaaS / PaaS), Agile Development and bespoke development knowledge in Microsoft technologies and platforms such as Visual Studio, .Net, Azure, SharePoint, Dynamics or similar is required for the Big Lottery Fund based in Birmingham, West Midlands

 

SALARY: £24,000 - £26,000 per annum + Generous Benefits  

LOCATION: Birmingham, West Midlands  

JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent

WORKING HOURS: 37 Hours per Week

JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Software Developer with good configuration knowledge of packaged solutions (SaaS / PaaS), Agile Development and bespoke development knowledge in Microsoft technologies and platforms such as Visual Studio, .Net, Azure, SharePoint, Dynamics or similar.

As the Software Developer, you join the Big Lottery Fund at an exciting time; the organisation is relaunching as The National Lottery Community Fund in January 2019. The IT department is going through a parallel transformation to emerge in January 2019 with a new vision, strategy and purpose as strategic enabler to the organisation.

We have exciting plans for 2019, which include a whole organisation device replacement programme, migration to Windows 10 and Office 2016, extend our Azure and Office 365 services, introduce SharePoint, augment our Intelligent Communications systems, upgrade most of the core business applications, and more.

Working as the Software Developer, you’ll contribute to the Software Solutions Team by flexibly supporting the activities of the team, responding to changing demands. As the Software Developer, you may be required to support and augment any of the activities of the team in response to changing demands and workloads, including software configuration, development, testing and all other activities of the team. You’ll also report to the Software Solutions Manager, who reports to the Senior Head (Systems).

The Software Solutions Team is responsible for bespoke software development and configuration of packaged software, on-premise and in-cloud. The team deliver solutions to explicit and implicit customer needs, as part of the Systems & Governance team, ensuring the most effective solutions are proposed and developed, that are pragmatic and appropriate to the organisation, delivering the maximum benefits in the shortest feasible timescale.

The team is also responsible for ensuring the operational quality and effectiveness of all systems and services provided by the IT department to the wider organisation and its customers, through thorough and comprehensive testing. The team part a vital role in the quality assurance of Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), packaged and bespoke software, and participate in related hardware and non-software testing activities.

 

DUTIES

  • Contribute to the delivery of effective and efficient software solutions for the organisation, including but not limited to, customising, configuring and administrating SaaS solutions, creating solutions from PaaS components and systems, packaged software, and where bespoke requirements exist, development of bespoke software
  • Contribute to the delivery of effective and efficient software solutions for the organisation, including but not limited to, manual and automated testing and QA of SaaS, PaaS packaged and bespoke software
  • Responsible for contributing to the effective provision of other IT solutions through QA and testing processes, such as operating system upgrades, new device launches, and similar non-software projects
  • Responsible for contributing to multiple projects in parallel workstreams
  • Responsible for contributing to team work delivered to challenging deadlines
  • Responsible for prioritising own workload to achieve goals, without compromising team deadlines
  • Responsible for contributing to the effective working of a constantly changing team, augmented with external professionals

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • Generalist knowledge of configuration of packaged solutions - Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) solutions
  • Preferred experience of user-led design methodologies, Agile software development and project delivery, rapid prototyping, and similar
  • Generalist knowledge of bespoke development in Microsoft software and platforms, preferably including more than one of the following, Visual Studio, .NET, Azure, SharePoint, Dynamics and similar
  • Preferred knowledge and experience of utilising at least one best practice software development framework
  • Preferred experience of working in a technical support, development or testing role where adherence to standard operating procedures, established systems and processes was required
  • Preferred familiarity with manual and automated testing tools, techniques and processes, including translation of manual processes into automated environments
  • Familiarity with more than one area of IT, including but not limited to, end user devices, telephony services, printing services and the usage of funding systems, finance systems, HR/people systems, desktop and cloud productivity systems, SharePoint, connectivity software and systems, mobile device applications
