SIA Security Officer / Guard who has experience of working in the security sector and is able to deal with people from all walks of life in a calm and non-confrontational manner, is required for a long-established independent Co-Educational Boarding and Day School based in Horsham, West Sussex.

 

SALARY: £10.28 per Hour

LOCATION: Horsham, West Sussex        

JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Temporary – initially for 6 to 12 months with a view to going permanent

WORKING HOURS: Rostered 12 hour shifts over a 7 day period.  Shifts are from 8am to 8pm and 8p to 8am, Monday to Sunday.  On average working 42 hours per week over a year.

JOB OVERVIEW

We have fantastic opportunity for an SIA Security Officer / Guard who has experience of working in the security sector and is able to deal with people from all walks of life in a calm and non-confrontational manner.

Working as the SIA Security Officer / Guard you will provide physical security for pupils, staff and property at the School, controlling access to the site and locking/unlocking all buildings as directed by your line manager.

As the SIA Security Officer / Guard you will control and account for the issue of all keys, remote gate opening devised and passes and will monitor all fire/security alarms on site and react as appropriate on activation.

 

DUTIES

Your main duties and responsibilities as the SIA Security Officer / Guard will include:

  • Ensure the security, safety and well-being of all pupils, staff, visitors and the premises at all times
  • Remain smartly and correctly dressed at all times whilst on duty. NB, Security Staff will often shape a visitors first impression of the School
  • Remain in compliance with all government, Security Industry Authority (SIA) and School regulations pertaining to security and manual guarding procedures
  • Immediately respond to emergencies to provide necessary assistance to pupils, staff and visitors
  • Follow school procedures for various initiatives, including fire prevention, routine security patrols and traffic/parking issues
  • Control the issue and recovery of all keys, RGODs and passes to the campus
  • Register all staff vehicles on the Vehicle Database ensuring that staff are reminded to display a valid vehicle pass
  • Request the assistance from the Emergency Services as soon as possible on the discovery of situation requiring their presence on site
  • Ensure the Reception building is manned at all times
  • Monitor the School radio network (Security/BM/Fire Safety channel) at all times
  • Monitor the CCTV network and react as appropriate to unusual occurrences
  • Provide psychical support when requested to search a particular building/area for a lost pupil
  • Carry out the shift patrol programme as directed by the Senior Security Officer/LM when on duty
  • Support fully, the School Receptionist (when on duty) in the execution of their duties
  • Control the issue and return of all School vehicles, including keys, vehicle documents and fuel cards

 

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Experience of working in the Security Sector
  • Hold a valid SIA Licence
  • Experience of lone working
  • Conversant with the most commonly found IT application/programmes. E.g. Word, Outlook and Excel.
  • Able to deal with people from all walks of life in a calm and non-confrontational manner
  • First Aid Trained (or willing to be trained)
  • Physically fit and robust able to undertake a 12 hour shift in all weathers with long periods of time on foot patrol
  • Self-starter, able to work on own initiative when required
  • Able to prioritise a course of action in an emergency situation whilst remaining calm
  • Able to engage with emergency services
  • Able to produce reports both written and verbally to inform other members of staff about incident details
  • Have empathy with young people and their problems
  • In the event of a major incident or disaster, you may be required to provide assistance, in whatever capacity necessary and participate in any training to ensure the School is fully prepared

 

Desirable

  • Experience of working in the education sector
  • Experience of working with/monitoring CCTV
  • Hold a valid CCTV Operators Licence
  • Full UK Driving Licence (Cat B – Car)
