Scrum Master with experience in a similar role for a software development team applying Scrum principles, practices and theory and proven experience with Agile techniques – Automated Testing, User Stories, TDD and Continuous Integration, is required by Guide Dogs.

 

The Charity is at the start of its Agile journey and would like to hear from candidates with experienced in helping organisations move forward and/or with experience in the LeSS framework.

 

SALARY: Up to £50,000 pro rata

LOCATION: This role will have opportunities to work from home as well as being office based.  Preference for office location will be discussed at interview stage.       

JOB TYPE: Full-Time, 12 Month Fixed Term Contract

WORKING HOURS: 37.5 hours per week, 9am – 5pm with a half hour lunch or 9am – 5.30pm with an hour lunch, Monday to Friday (the charity is always keen to support flexible working as best they can)

JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Scrum Master with experience in a similar role for a software development team applying Scrum principles, practices and theory and proven experience with Agile techniques – Automated Testing, User Stories, TDD and Continuous Integration.

Working as the Scrum Master you will support newly forming scrum teams in delivering and maintaining digital products and services.

As the Scrum Master you will support with the prioritisation and scheduling of product and service delivery across multiple technology and digital workstream dependencies.

DUTIES

Your duties as the Scrum Master will include:

  • Guiding the team and organisation on how to use Agile/Scrum practices and values
  • Assessing the Scrum Maturity of the team and organisation and coaching the team to higher levels of maturity
  • Removing impediments
  • Building a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised and discussed openly with an emphasis on healing and problem-solving
  • Facilitating getting the work done without coercion, assigning, or dictating the work
  • Assisting with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and radiating information
  • Supporting and educating the Product Owner, especially on grooming and maintaining the product backlog
  • Planning retrospectives effectively and encouraging a feedback loop that results in direct actions and improvements
  • Providing all support to the team using a servant leadership style whenever possible and leading by example

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Certified or equivalent Agile practitioner
  • Experience in playing the Scrum Master role for a software development team that was diligently applying Scrum principles, practices, and theory
  • Demonstrated proven experience with Agile techniques – Automated Testing, User Stories, TDD, Continuous Integration, Testing, Pairing, Agile Games, etc.
  • Understanding of iterative development, incremental delivery, the value of metrics, backlog tracking, burndown metrics, velocity, and task definition
  • Knowledge and application of servant leadership, facilitation skills, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continuous improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency
  • Knowledge of patterns and techniques (example: numerous Burndown technologies, various Retrospective formats, handling bugs, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Agile approaches – Kanban, Scrum, XP, etc.
  • Creative and analytical thinker with strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to critically evaluate and prioritise information gathered from multiple sources and reconcile conflicts
