SALARY: £23,784 per annum

JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Deputy Facilities & Buildings Maintenance Manager / School Caretaker / Handyperson who holds recognised training/qualifications associated with premises management, with some experience of skills in a trade and competency with building repairs and maintenance.

Working as the Deputy Facilities & Buildings Maintenance Manager / School Caretaker / Handyperson you will work with and support the Premises Manager to manage and develop all aspects of the school’s premises, cleaning and building maintenance services.

As the Deputy Facilities & Buildings Maintenance Manager / School Caretaker / Handyperson you will support all site-specific procurement, including water, heat and lighting and will ensure the safe and effective maintenance and operation of the buildings and grounds.

The Deputy Facilities & Buildings Maintenance Manager / School Caretaker / Handyperson will support the Premises Manager to prepare a termly report for the Governors, summarising health and safety matters, statutory test compliance and other buildings related matters.

 

DUTIES

  • Support all administration relating to the management of the premises
  • Adhere to budgets
  • Ensure that premises are maintained to a very high standard, and that health and safety and security measures are in place at all times
  • Planning and coordination of routine maintenance work, repair work and decoration work
  • Ensure all school appliances and equipment operate safely, effectively and efficiently.  This may involve completing a PAT testing course and carrying out in-house PAT testing
  • Ensure that the grounds and play areas are maintained to a high standard and are safe for children
  • Responsible for regular water testing in the swimming pool (including some weekends) to ensure chemical levels are safe
  • Help to co-ordinate weekend site utilisation; external hiring of the swimming pool, rooms and facilities at the school
  • Unlocking and locking up of Premises
  • Key holder on-call, respond to out of hours emergencies on site i.e. accidents, vital equipment/services failures, break-ins, bad weather, fires etc. To be the first point of call for Fire and Police emergencies
  • Ensure stock control and ordering good value assets and domestic supplies
  • Ensure that all fire equipment is working and that appropriate fire drills are carried out and recorded
  • Ensure that all equipment and alarms are serviced regularly and comply fully with all requirements
  • Liaise with contractors and monitor their safe working practices and standard of work
  • The inspection and cleaning of vehicles on a weekly basis
  • Coordinating the booking service for school vehicles
  • Coordinating the hire of extra vehicles including negotiation of contracts etc. 

 

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • Hold recognised training/qualifications associated with premises management
  • Some experience of managing or assisting in managing a large site or premises
  • Some experience of skills in a trade
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety regulations
  • The ability to apply regulations such as health & safety, manual handling, COSHH, Legionella etc.
  • Excellent understanding of school policies and procedures and most importantly the equal opportunities policy, Safeguarding policy and all health & safety related policies
  • Experience of maintaining a swimming pool, testing the water and understanding of NOP and the EAP
  • Risk assessment experience and / or qualification
  • Competency with building repairs and maintenance
  • Ability to use small industrial, electrical and mechanical equipment
  • Strong or developing planning and negotiation skills
  • Ability to use IT to ensure personal effectiveness
  • Excellent communication, numeracy and literacy skills
  • Ability to perform the physical tasks required by the post including lifting, carrying and pushing various equipment
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Clean driving licence and able to drive the mini bus
