Lloyd’s Canada is seeking to recruit a Risk and Governance Officer for the America’s based out of our Toronto office. 

This role would be focused on supporting the Americas first-line risk landscape whilst collaborating with the risk management function, Global Network Central Team and wider Markets function. The role of Risk and Governance Officer will ensure that the Americas and its business, legal and regulatory risks are effectively identified, assessed and managed within risk appetites set by the Lloyd’s Council. This new role will support the Regional Director & President, Americas, in fulfilling all Regional Oversight Group and Global Network Committee responsibilities and provide support for strategic business initiatives.

 

Principal Accountabilities of the Risk and Governance Officer

  • Contribute towards the successful delivery of the Lloyd’s risk framework by leading the risk and control assessment process which provides assurance to the Lloyd’s Council that risks are being managed within risk appetite
  • Support Americas risk landscape by leading and contributing to the delivery of a range of risk management tools and reports to assess the key operational risks, principally people, process, systems and external risks arising from the activities of the Corporation.  Maintain ongoing monitoring of the key current and emerging operational risks facing Lloyd’s
  • Liaise with a range of stakeholders, including at senior levels, across Lloyd’s to gather, assess and report key risk information, for example in reviewing the Lloyd’s risk register and risk appetites
  • To support on Americas first line-risks and issues arising from the Lloyd’s overall risk profile. To engage effectively with risk representatives and other risk specialists embedded across the business
  • Managing, supporting and coordinating the various regional governance, compliance, and risk accountabilities such as the Americas Regional Oversight Group (ROG), Risk Control Self-Assessment (RCSA), Controls testing and Global Policy attestations. This will also include all relevant preparation for the Global Network Committee (GNC)
  • Support or lead specific strategic projects in the Americas region as required
  • Support the Regional Director & President, Americas, with the preparation of briefings for upcoming meetings, conferences, presentations and media engagements
  • Plan and create collateral for internal and external meetings and presentations – liaising with the Corporate Affairs team as appropriate
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues in the Americas, London and throughout the Lloyd’s global network
  • Make appropriate decisions and using initiative, delegate work to others on behalf of the Regional Director & President, Americas
  • Lead key business activities including planning and control of market development and related outreach to external stakeholders

 

Skills Knowledge and Experience required as the Risk and Governance Officer

  • Clear articulate communicator – exhibiting diplomacy, sound judgement and discretion at all times
  • A proven ability to influence and facilitate compromise when required
  • Ability to challenge/communicate at a senior level
  • Excellent organisational and writing skills, attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
  • Confidence and experience making informed decisions

  • Understanding of Lloyd’s and the global property/casualty insurance industry
  • Understanding of Risk Management, including knowledge of key risk concepts and approaches and the ability to apply this knowledge to practical business solutions
  • Knowledge of regulatory practice expectations of good governance, risk management and risk control practices within the insurance industry
  • Working with or in a Risk Function or in a front line operational role
  • Collaborating with a team and stakeholders to deliver high quality outputs
  • Planning, execution and leadership of processes and controls
  • Contributing to change within a fast-paced, complex environment
  • Managing a number of complex projects simultaneously
