Residential Care Support Worker who has experience of working with children and young people preferably within a children’s residential care or educational setting is required to join our team at Swalcliffe Park School.


SALARY: £23,541 - £27,041 per annum + £1,755 per annum sleep payment (NJC Points 15-22)

BENEFITS: Generous Holiday (9 weeks’ paid holiday to be taken in school holidays), NEST Pension Scheme, Sickness entitlement 2 weeks full pay 2 weeks half pay

Our school provides specialist day and residential education and care for secondary aged autistic boys (10-19 years).  We offer excellent working conditions in a beautiful environment, including paid school holidays, opportunities for career development and staff training. 

Due to a growth in numbers of students for the forthcoming academic year and internal staff promotions, we have a number of permanent staff positions available working afternoons and evenings together with every other weekend in Care.

Working as a Residential Care Support Worker you will primarily support our students in a range of skills which will enhance their opportunities for independence and social inclusion.  We place high importance in the recording of outcomes for our students and in the monitoring of achievements; so duties also include the reporting on the well-being of students, report writing, data input and analysis and attendance at meetings.



Some of your duties as a Residential Care Support Worker will include:

  • Participate in and keeping records of evening activities and the work as directed by the Team Leader
  • Undertake key-working responsibility for individual boys in the house focusing on the specific needs identified in their care plan
  • As instructed by the Team Leader, work proactively with the team within the daily routine and agreed structures of the house, to include for example life-skills programmes; activity events and Key-working sessions
  • Support the work of the Therapy and Education Teams within residential time
  • Contribute to the writing of the case file, implementing and monitoring progress
  • Contribute to ensuring Students’ Risk Assessments, Care and Medical Plans are up to date and maintained
  • Support engagement of the students with any aspects of Universal Provision, Quality of Life Framework and Independence Plus curriculum
  • Build positive and appropriate working relationships with the boys, ensuring adherence to boundaries and consistency of care practice
  • Work collectively with team members in using effective care practice, de-escalating and diversionary strategies and recognised techniques to manage boys who exhibit challenging, threatening and confrontational behaviour
  • Encourage Student Voice opportunities
  • Support new students to become familiarised with the school premises, facilities and have appropriate uniform and resources



Candidates will have the following skills, experience and attributes:

  • QCF (NVQ) Level 3 Health and Social Care (desirable for Care positions) or willingness to study and attain this qualification in a designated timescale
  • GCSE (or equivalent) English and Mathematics Grade C or above (essential) and be ICT literate
  • Experience of working with students with ASC (desirable)
