Job Description

Public Relations (PR) / Media Marketing Officer with excellent written and verbal communication skills, including writing press releases and content for digital channels is required by the National Lottery Promotions Unit (NLPU) located in London.

 

SALARY: £25,000 - £27,000 pro rata (including London weighting) + Generous Benefits

LOCATION: London

JOB TYPE: Fixed Term Contract until end of December 2019

WORKING HOURS: Full-Time, 37 Hours per Week

JOB OVERVIEW

The National Lottery Family is seeking an experienced Public Relations (PR) / Media Marketing Officer to help deliver high quality media coverage for The National Lottery’s 25th Birthday and ensure the celebrations in 2019 reach as many people as possible, telling the story of the extraordinary contribution of The National Lottery to life in the UK over the last 25 years.

Working as the Public Relations (PR) / Media Marketing Officer you will work closely with the Press and PR Manager to prepare detailed plans to manage pro-active and reactive media opportunities.

As the Public Relations (PR) / Media Marketing Officer, you will draft and sell in news and feature stories to national, consumer, regional and trade press and broadcast media. You will develop and nurture positive relationships with journalists across all media, including national and local newspapers, consumer publications, radio, TV and online.

Your responsibilities as the Public Relations (PR) / Media Marketing Officer will also involve helping to manage media enquiries and provide timely responses including spokespeople requests, statements, images, film, facts and stats.

You will draft media materials and ensure they are shared with relevant stakeholders.  You will help to maintain a media database to keep track of enquiries and responses and monitor and report on successes.

You will support the Press and PR Manager to manage negative stories and correct omissions and misinformation, working in close consultation with colleagues from across the National Lottery family.

Since 1994, The National Lottery has raised an incredible £39 billion for Good Causes all across the UK. Through the £30 million they raise every week, National Lottery players help build local communities, power sports teams, protect the environment, unleash creative talent, look after the elderly and unlock youthful potential. Support from The National Lottery wins Olympic medals and Oscars but despite this success, public awareness of the range and extent of National Lottery funding to Good Causes remains low.

The National Lottery Promotions Unit (NLPU) raises positive public awareness of National Lottery funding, thereby contributing to the overall brand health of The National Lottery.

Through a series of campaigns and initiatives, the NLPU brings to life the purpose of the National Lottery and showcases the extraordinary impact Good Causes funding has across the UK.  Working through traditional and digital media, it is our aim to make National Lottery players aware of, and thank them for, the thousands of incredible projects across the UK and in their local communities.

The NLPU is a joint venture between Camelot UK Lotteries, Lottery distributors and the Department for Culture, Media & Sport.

 

IDEAL CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

You’ll need to demonstrate:

  • Previous experience of working on high profile consumer or digital campaigns for a range of audiences in a multi-channel environment
  • Evidence of gaining high quality media coverage through national and local media outlets
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including writing press releases and content for digital channels, networking, negotiating and presenting to a range of audiences
  • Pro-active in approach, seeking new opportunities and responding quickly to any challenges
  • Strong knowledge of recent developments in digital and social media
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong editorial skills and ability to create engaging content for traditional and digital media
  • Experience of managing external suppliers and budgets
  • Ability to remain confident and calm under pressure, and have a positive influence on others during times of change
