Operations Manager with excellent team leadership and management skills and experience of handling safeguarding concerns within a service delivery setting is required to join our friendly team at Guide Dogs.

 

SALARY: £37,465 - £45,493 per annum

JOB OVERVIEW

This is a fantastic opportunity to join our North East Regional team.  The Operations Manager manages the team that deliver our Skills, Information & Support Services (SISS). Our SISS team consist of Rehabilitation specialists, Habilitation specialists and My Sighted Guide Officers. Your team could be made up of specialists in any of these areas. These services are crucial in ensuring that anyone with a vision impairment can live as independently as possible.

As the Operations Manager you must have experience of working with or managing a team who are dedicated to delivering high quality and compliant services. Experience working with contracts, commissioners, local authorities, and educational establishments would be advantageous, as well as working in an environment that puts Safeguarding at the centre.

The Operations Manager will be based in the North East, and be expected to spend 3 days a week in our Newcastle office, in order to have a high office presence within the organization. Travel will be required at times across the Northeast Region which covers the Northeast, Yorkshire, Hull and Humber.

 

DUTIES

Your duties as the Operations Manager include:

  • Responsible for the operational delivery required to enable person-centred services within the allocated geographical area of your Region
  • Responsible for the person-centred delivery of services
  • Work with key collaborative partners to augment, promote, develop and deliver these services
  • Lead the team to proactively identify and resolve areas of concern in standardisation and process application
  • Ensure feedback and the voice of customers is utilised to achieve continuous improvement
  • Support the Regional Leadership Team to identify and implement funding opportunities or joint collaborative working
  • Work closely with Safeguarding team members to embed safe practices in front line service delivery
  • Provide first-line leadership to staff team(s), managing and developing a high performing operations team
  • Develop team working, knowledge-sharing and promote professional best working practice
  • Manage recruitment and staff resourcing in the team
  • Ensure that strong volunteer and employee engagement is achieved through active listening and effective leadership
  • Responsible for performance management of operational staff members
  • Ensure processes are embedded and validated to enable quality standards to be efficiently met
  • Plan a defined staged delivery plan
  • Monitor and evaluate against key performance indicators
  • Ensure appropriate resources are available to deliver the plan
  • Work collaboratively with other internal and external professionals
  • Support the Regional Leadership Team in developing and implementing change management concepts
  • Ensures that operations staff and volunteers support fundraising where appropriate
  • Support the Regional Leadership Team to ensure all relevant aspects of the operations budget is monitored and team expenditure against that budget is compliant and maximises efficiencies

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Certified Management qualification such as ILM or equivalent relevant work experience in a management, supervisory or volunteer management role
  • Demonstrable experience of working in a professional management, supervisory or teaching / training role related to vulnerable people
  • Experience of handling safeguarding concerns within a service delivery setting
  • Knowledge of current legislation, policy and research relating to people with sight loss and/or disability. Up to date with current policies, practice and thinking in the Education and/or Health and Social Care sector

 

Desirable

  • Project Management qualification (Prince-2 or equivalent)
  • Professional qualification in a related field (e.g. CQSW/DipSW, post graduate, Dip/Cert, BEd/PGCE/QTS, Habilitation/Rehab/GDT/GDMS.)
  • Experience of Rehabilitation practice / Habilitation Quality Standards / working dog practice as applicable (SISS role)
  • Experience of working with dogs (CAS role)
