JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent

WORKING HOURS: Monday to Friday, variable hours between 8:00am to 6:00pm, 40 hours per week, Term-time only



We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a School Matron / Nurse who naturally possesses excellent communication, administrative and organisational skills with the ability to foster positive relationships with the children, staff and the wider School community.

Working as a School Matron / Nurse you will work with the Assistant Matron to meet the general medical needs of the pupils. Alongside providing a first aid response, the role will also involve supporting health plans set up to facilitate attendance at school for those pupils with specific medical needs.

As a School Matron / Nurse you will have a varied role from treating minor bumps and bruises to being present on the sidelines at sports matches. Your first response skills will be relied upon to ensure children receive the best care available.



Your role as a School Matron / Nurse will include:

  • To have an oversight of pupils’ first aid and medical needs, supporting pupils who fall ill at school and accompanying children to hospital when necessary
  • To liaise with parents, staff and the school registrar regarding pupils’ medical needs, ensuring that school records are accurate and current
  • To ensure safe storage of medicines within School, maintaining records of any medical issues/medication administered
  • To manage and maintain the First Aid reporting requirements, including RIDDOR level accidents, and attendance at applicable meetings
  • To ensure that the contents of First Aid kits are replenished as necessary
  • To pack First Aid kits for educational visits and games lessons, including any medications required and appropriate medical and contact details
  • To manage the School Attendance Records, including (but not limited to) collating completed registers, produce termly absence reports, liaising with Headmaster/ Deputy Head re any absence concerns, providing input into the relevant school Policies and Procedures
  • To update First Aid policies relating to surgery practices
  • To perform risk assessments for staff and pupils, as required
  • To attend and contribute to the weekly ‘Welfare Committee’ meeting, chaired by the Deputy Head
  • To ensure there are sufficient trained staff within the school, and arranging First Aid/ Paediatric First Aid training courses
  • To supervise children who remain at school and remain on site until 6.00pm, also catering for any unforeseen late collection
  • To be available and listen to any concern from the pupils, and then communicate and take any appropriate action as per the School’s procedures
  • To maintain confidentiality at all times in respect of school-related matters and to prevent disclosure of confidential or sensitive information
  • To support staff and children on promotional Saturday Open Mornings, School Events and Events organised by the Parents’ Committee; Sports Days and Speech Day



  • A qualification or experience in Childcare and/or First Aid
  • Driving licence (and preferably car owner)
  • A qualified RGN with current NMC registration is desirable
  • Demonstrative interest in own professional development
