Head of Marketing & Communications with excellent team leadership and management skills with experience managing large, high performing communications teams within either a charity or commercial setting is required by Guide Dogs based.

 

SALARY: £68,124 - £77,821 per annum (includes £4,105 London Weighting and Depending on Experience) + Excellent Benefits per annum

JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity to lead the Guide Dogs’ communications team as the Head of Marketing & Communications (officially known within the organisation as the Head of Internal and External Communications). You will be based in London, with regular travel to Reading, Berkshire.

Working as the Head of Marketing & Communications you will play a leading role in helping Guide Dogs deliver its purpose of every person with sight loss having the ability to live the life they choose. We aim to achieve this by providing life-changing services for the independence of people living with sight loss and their friends and family. We will put people with sight loss at the heart of everything we do and firmly place ourselves at the forefront of inclusivity.

The Head of Marketing & Communications role is a pivotal leadership position within Guide Dogs as internal and external communications is critical to Guide Dogs’ strategic success, staff and volunteer engagement, as well as making Guide Dogs a great place to work.

 

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR?

We are looking for a proactive and inspiring leader who has a track record of leading large, high-performing communications teams in the charity or commercial sector, ideally including internal and external communications. You should have experience of proactively using communications to deliver on key strategic objectives, overcoming organisational challenges and creating a positive culture for staff and volunteers, as well as managing a large number of communications projects across multiple teams within a complex organisation and managing large budgets.

DUTIES

Your duties and responsibilities as the Head of Marketing & Communications

PR and Media Relations

  • Transform communications to become sector leading in quantity and quality of coverage, improving brand positioning
  • Maximise ways of working with other directorates and teams to maximise PR and media opportunities
  • Play a lead role in marketing planning and delivery, working in partnership with Brand and Digital Teams
  • Improve Guide Dogs performance across all broadcast media
  • Liaise with external communications agencies and suppliers when needed

Internal Communications

  • Improve internal communications for employees and volunteers
  • Use best practice principles to provide expert strategic leadership in internal communications
  • Lead a review of channels for employee and volunteer communications including current publications

Crisis Management

  • Proactively identify internal and external challenges and provide strategic expert guidance and recommendations to Executive and Senior Management Team
  • Working alongside Executive and Senior Management Team, lead on the development of crisis management strategy

Ambassador and Celebrity Engagement

  • Improve the quality and breadth of the high-profile ambassador network
  • Ensure the celebrity supporter network consists of engaged and committed individuals, who can endorse key charity activity and attract new audiences to the brand

People Management

  • Lead a high performing team, viewed as best in class externally
  • Act as a role model and coach, and support the team to be proactive, agile and impact driven
  • Encourage team members to identify new opportunities to increase brand awareness and grow the supporter base

Financial Management

  • Work closing with the Finance Business Partner to develop, manage and review the Communications budget and forecast for the Director of Marketing
