Fostering Panel Member who has held a position of authority for example working as a Teacher, Police Officer, Judge, Magistrate, Lawyer, Social Worker or within a similar type of role and can make extremely important and critical decisions on a child’s welfare and the suitability of foster parent applicants is required to join our fantastic team at Five Rivers Child Care.
The Panel meet once a month either virtually and/or in person, in Manchester to discuss fostering applications. For each panel meeting you will receive £200 + mileage
PAY RATE: £200 per Panel + Mileage
LOCATION: Manchester, Greater Manchester, North West England (Candidates do not necessarily need to live in Manchester. However, you must be able to travel to the office in Manchester occasionally for the panel meeting)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Independent Fostering Panel Members to advise on Foster Carer’s for our Safehouses Fostering Service.
As the Fostering Panel Member, you will take on responsibility to participate on the recommendation on each case, drawing on both personal and professional knowledge and experience. You will participate with other members in advising on policy and procedural matters, to address diversity issues and promote anti-discriminatory practice and to sit on the Panel to make recommendations about the suitability to foster of applicants and foster carers.
To be successful in this role as a Fostering Panel Member, we need someone who will always be thinking of the child, ensuring they are at the forefront of all decisions. You must be able to work as a team member to achieve best outcomes for the children. Experience of working in the fostering sector and/or children/young people would be an advantage but not necessary. No formal social work qualifications are necessary, but an understanding of and empathy for the work required is necessary.
As the Fostering Panel Member, you will have the following skills, experience and qualifications:
- You ideally have held a position of authority for example working as a Teacher, Police Officer, Judge, Magistrate, Lawyer, Social Worker or within a similar type of role and can make extremely important and critical decisions
- Good listening and communication skills
- The ability to make an assessment and to form a view based on written and verbal information presented to the panel
- The ability to use personal and/or professional knowledge and experience to contribute to the discussions and decision-making in a balanced and informed manner
- The ability to attend panel meeting as required, arriving on time and to attend at least one training day each year
