Electrician who is either fully qualified or prepared to work towards obtaining the 18th edition IET wiring regulations or holds or be willing to work towards City and Guilds 2391 Inspecting, Testing & Certification of Electrical Installations or equivalent is required for established school estates office based in Sherborne, Dorset, South West England.

 

SALARY: Competitive (dependent upon experience) plus 5 Weeks Annual Leave + Bank Holidays   

LOCATION: Sherborne, Dorset, South West England     

JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent

WORKING HOURS: 40 hours per week – 08:00 – 16:30 - Monday to Friday

JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for an Electrician who is either fully qualified or prepared to work towards obtaining the 18th edition IET wiring regulations or holds or be willing to work towards City and Guilds 2391 Inspecting, Testing & Certification of Electrical Installations or equivalent.

Working as an Electrician you will have the ability to use a working knowledge of electrical systems to conduct maintenance, fault-finding, and diagnostics on existing systems. Installation of new electrical systems, and to maintain those systems while upholding safety guidelines and complying with codes and regulations.

As an Electrician you will be required to ensure good quality workmanship which upholds the company’s standards and complies with building codes and follows safety requirements. You will respond and deal with reactive maintenance tasks, both urgent and non-urgent within the specified time frame appropriate to the priority of the task and assessing the parts needed for the tasks.

 

DUTIES

Your role as an Electrician will include:

  • To undertake and complete electrical installation work both internally and externally
  • To carry out day to day installation, maintenance, repairs and testing as instructed by The Head of Estates and Facilities Management. To include, but not limited to:
  • lighting and power systems
  • electronic building management and security systems
  • electrical plant equipment including single and three phase motors
  • data cabling
  • installation and termination of Cat 5E / Cat 6 and associated accessories
  • To carry out fault-finding and fault diagnosis/rectification as required
  • To carry out inspection testing and provide condition reporting of existing infrastructure and systems throughout the company
  • To complete all documentation associated with the duties of an Approved Electrician and in line with the current British Standards (BS7671:2018)
  • Ability to conduct a methodical inspection and provide a report, carry out a risk assessment and write a method statement
  • Ability to work alone without supervision
  • To drive company vehicles as required and in accordance with procedures and legislation (full clean driving licence is required)
  • To be available for Emergency Call-Out (subject to standby rota and conditions determined by the scheme) at any time, including emergency work outside normal working hours in conjunction with any part of the company

 

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • Previous employment within the electrical Industry
  • Be formally qualified or be prepared to work towards obtaining the 18th edition IET wiring regulations and either hold or be willing to work towards City and Guilds 2391 Inspecting, Testing & Certification of Electrical Installations or equivalent
  • Commercial, Industrial and Domestic electrical installation experience
  • Ability to undertake fault diagnosis and rectification without support is essential
  • Previous experience in maintaining fire and security systems is desirable; however, training will be available to the right candidate
  • Ability to use a computer to input test results into the company database
  • Have a good working knowledge of and the ability to put into practice the following:
  • The current edition of the IEE Regulations
  • Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
  • Electricity Supply Regulations 1988
  • Electricity at Work Regulations 1989
  • Other Relevant British Standards & Codes of Practice, i.e. BS5839 & BS5266
  • Physically fit
  • Ability to work at heights with a good sense of balance
  • Good hand-eye coordination
  • Normal colour vision
  • Able to work independently or as part of a team
  • Good time management skills
  • Be prepared to undertake any necessary training
