SALARY: £18,813 per annum + Unsocial Hours Payments (depending on shifts worked) + NHS Benefits         

JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent

LOCATION: High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire (Opportunities also available in Wexham, Slough)

WORKING HOURS: 37.5 hours per week (including Bank Holidays, evenings and weekends)

KEY REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must have at least a provisional C1 element on their driving licence (at interview) that will allow you to drive up to 7.5t vehicles.

Working as the Ambulance Emergency Patient Transport / Hospital Care Assistant you will support clinically qualified practitioners in the provision of high quality and effective pre-hospital clinical care to the community, responding, when appropriate using advanced emergency driving skills, to medical emergencies, inter-hospital transfers and urgent hospital admissions.

As the Ambulance Emergency Patient Transport / Hospital Care Assistant, you will also be responsible for supporting the provision of clinical, social and holistic care to patients in a pre-hospital environment, safely and within appropriate level of training and competency.

DUTIES

Your duties and responsibilities as the Ambulance Emergency Patient Transport Driver / Hospital Care Assistant:

  • Respond immediately to emergency calls, hospital admissions, hospital transfers and other operational transport duties, as indicated by the Emergency Control Centre
  • Support the work of qualified practitioners by using appropriate knowledge and skills in order to assist them make professional judgements, conducting diagnostic procedures and treatments, as requested by the qualified practitioners
  • Ensure informed consent is obtained before treatment or intervention is undertaken
  • Ensure a continuous duty of care to patients, within the level of training and competency of this role
  • Be involved in ‘see and treat’ scenarios, often communicating with patients GPs/ OOH services and other referral pathways
  • Ensure the safe transfer of patients, to and from vehicles
  • Respond to and communicate with patients, relatives, colleagues, other health professionals, other emergency responders and members of the public in a calm, caring and professional manner, treating them with dignity and respect at all times, regardless of the circumstance
  • Undertake a dynamic risk assessment on arrival at the scene of an incident in accordance with Trust policy and professional guidelines
  • Administer drugs when working with clinician (currently, aspirin, oxygen, Entonox, Hypostop).
  • Provide initial scene management and support to qualified practitioners, in the case of multiple casualties and major incidents
  • Assist in HALO (Hospital Ambulance Liaison Officer)

 

 

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL:

  • Full driving licence with no more than 3 points for speeding
  • Full C1 driving licence (when you start) that will allow you to drive up to 7.5t vehicles
  • Customer service experience
  • Previous experience working within a public facing role with relevant customer care experience
  • Can assess risks, anticipate difficulties and take appropriate action
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
  • Proficient in the use of IT and communications systems
  • Awareness of equality and diversity in the working environment and surrounding community

 

DESIRABLE:

  • Community First Responder experience
  • Geographical knowledge of operational areas
  • Previous shift work experience
  • Previous patient care experience
  • Previous Healthcare / NHS experience
  • Previous voluntary or medical experience
