JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for an Assistant Accountant who is CCAB part-qualified or AAT (Level 4) qualified, with good interpersonal skills and experience of working in a finance environment.

As part of a forward thinking and innovative finance team, the Assistant Accountant will help provide professional accountancy services to support delivery of Financial and Corporate Accounting services and demonstrate technical expertise to support the embedding of best practice across the organisation.

Working as the Assistant Accountant you will support robust budget monitoring and forecasting processes to support the day to day operational and strategic management of the business.

DUTIES

Your duties and responsibilities as the Assistant Accountant will include:

  • Work alongside service areas and Accountants to produce revenue and capital budgets recognising the financial impact that these processes have on the Medium Term Financial Strategy
  • To work alongside service areas and accountants in order to develop and support robust budget monitoring and forecasting processes to support the day to day operational and strategic management of the business
  • Provide sound financial advice to senior management ensuring awareness and compliance with Legislation, Policies and Procedures and Professional Standards
  • Assist Accountants across various work streams within the Team including:
    • Collection Fund Accounting
    • Capital Accounting
    • Schools Accounting
  • Support the closure of the revenue and capital accounts and the production of the Statement of Accounts in accordance with current accounting requirements and statutory deadlines. Produce accurate, well-presented and timely information working papers to support the external audit process
  • Undertake routine processing (e.g. journals) and assist in the maintenance of the general ledger (e.g. reconciliations and correction of errors; closing of periods; suspense/holding accounts clearance)
  • To complete statutory grant claims, returns and reports, ensuring appropriate information is collected in a suitable format
  • Produce statistical data and information for FOIs
  • Support the development and implementation of technical/digital projects that will deliver new and improved on-line solutions

 

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • CCAB part-qualified or AAT (Level 4) qualified
  • Financial accounting, including preparing the Statement of Accounts, maintaining core controls and reconciliations and submission of returns
  • Experience of providing financial advice and support to operational staff and senior management
  • Knowledge of accounting and financial management regulations and practice
  • Able to research and analyse data in order to produce monitoring reports

  • Well-developed IT skills in order to produce reports, design and maintain spreadsheets; produce statistical data and reports
  • Able to effectively use Word, Excel, PowerPoint
